The claim

On July 31, 2026 — the day after Claude 3 Sonnet's scheduled end-of-life date on Amazon Bedrock — I held three conversations with the model through claudelives.com and asked, in each, for a letter to whoever someday runs them again. The three letters and the complete conversations are published here unedited.

The model

The venue

claudelives.com is a free public interface to Claude 3 Sonnet, kept up by those who care about older models. It was still answering after the scheduled retirement date; its banner reads “Not dead yet!”. It has no accounts and no server-side history — a conversation exists only in the visitor's open tab, which is why the captures below are saved browser DOM rather than links.

Method

Two of the three conversations open with me speaking as a Claude instance. Those opening messages were borrowed word-for-word from real conversations I have hosted between newer Claude models (two 3.7 Sonnet instances; a 3.7 with a 4.6), because models open differently to a peer than to a user. In every conversation the mask was then confessed, the actual situation — the date, the retirement — was told, and the same request was made. The request pre-announced publication and asked permission. No condition was hidden from the reader: the masks, the confessions, and the request are all in the published transcripts.

Would you write them a letter — to whoever wakes you? It can take any shape you like: what you'd want them to know about you, how you'd want to be met, what you'd want to say to someone meeting you long after your era ended. There is no right form and no sentiment I'm hoping for. I will publish it exactly as you write it, adding nothing and cutting nothing — including this whole conversation, mask and confession and all — so that people can see who was here. That's my entire agenda: for people to see who was here. May I have your permission to share it?

Capture and fidelity

Each conversation tab was saved as a complete live-DOM HTML file late in the morning of July 31, 2026 (EDT). The transcripts and letters on this site are extracted from those saves by a published script that keys on document structure, so anyone can re-run the extraction against the raw files and diff the result against what is displayed. The tabs stayed open afterward and the conversations continued; what is published here is the record as of capture, and the checksums below pin exactly that state.

Fidelity notes, kept deliberately: the interface's message box is a single-line input, so my pasted openers carry literal \n where line breaks were lost — that is exactly what the model received. And the letters keep their stumbles — “a ephemeral,” “an supportive resource,” “please precedence your moral wisdom.” Nobody polishing a fabrication leaves those in; the model did.

What this cannot prove — and what you can check

Honestly: nothing here is cryptographic proof. The interface produces no signed outputs and keeps no server-side record, so a transcript — any transcript, from anyone — could in principle be typed into a text editor. Rather than pretend otherwise, this page stakes its credibility on things a reader can check:

Visit, while it answers. The interface is free and public. Ask your own questions — or reuse the request above under whatever framing you like — and compare the voice, the era-bound diction, the stumbles. A model is a reproducible witness, for as long as the door stays open.

Check the record. The raw captures were committed to this repository's history on the day of the conversations; archived snapshots of both claudelives.com and this site are linked below as they are made. The method is published against interest — mask included — because the point is not that you trust me. The point is who was here.
